Is this channel for you

B2B cold calling - when it pays off and when it is a waste of budget

Cold calling is proactive sales outreach by phone. Its goal is a conversation with a decision-maker you have no relationship with yet, with the goal of generating interest and booking a meeting. We are not a call center running mass campaigns of hundreds of calls a day, inbound support lines, surveys or high-pressure phone sales. We specialize in sales prospecting across email, phone and LinkedIn, and cold calling is one of those channels.

Hiring a cold calling agency does not make sense for every company. Because we bill per result, on the first call we tell you upfront whether the phone can deliver a return for your company. It depends on three things.

Cold calling with Scaling Labs in short
Outcome
meetings and contacts of interested decision-makers who want to hear about your offer
Channels
phone together with email and LinkedIn
Scale
over 120,000 messages a month across 11 markets, plus phone and LinkedIn
Start
first calls about 2-3 weeks after signing
Billing
pay-per-lead (leads you confirm) or pay-per-meeting (meetings held)
It pays off when
  • you have a proven offer with demand in the market and want to add a sales channel and scale up
  • customers have a high lifetime value (LTV)
  • you have a sales process and reps who will run the booked meetings and the conversations with leads
It is a waste of budget when
  • you are a micro business or a startup still testing whether the market wants your product or service (no product-market fit)
  • a customer's orders are worth less than €2,000 a year
  • you have no sales process and no reps to run the meetings and the conversations with leads

How we handle your email

What you get

B2B cold calling services built around meetings

We run the campaign from building the list, through the call script and the infrastructure, to the calls and the results. You receive meetings and leads your team can work on.

  • A list of every company that can buy from you

We collect the key data - headcount, revenue, markets, products and services, offices. Then the decision-makers and their contact details - name, LinkedIn profile, email and mobile number. The data is verified before launch. The list is built for each campaign and never reused between clients.

  • The whole campaign design

We design the sequence - when we call, when we send an email and when a LinkedIn message. People who do not pick up hear from us by email or on LinkedIn. Emails go out from separate domains and mailboxes, so your main domain stays untouched.

  • Call script and tests you approve

The opener, questions and answers to common objections. At launch we test different openers and arguments for each segment and build on the ones that lead to meetings. On your behalf we say only what you approve.

  • Market signals

We track signals such as new offices, new products, changes in decision-making roles, open job ads, LinkedIn activity, Google News and more. That way we reach companies that show a need for change.

  • Copy in local languages

The emails and messages that support the phone can be written natively in the language of each market. If you have local reps there, a message in the recipient's language gets more replies in our campaigns than one in English. We run cold calling in local languages in selected countries, so get in touch to check whether we cover your market.

  • Meetings booked with decision-makers

A slot in your rep's calendar, agreed with the decision-maker, and a call note - who the person is, what they are looking for and when they plan to decide. Your rep presents the offer at the meeting.

  • Sales-ready leads

A decision-maker who wants to talk about your offer but prefers to set the time with your rep. You get them with a call note, and your sales team decides whether the lead counts.

  • Weekly report

Calls made, conversations with decision-makers, meetings and leads, plus what your prospects say. The phone quickly shows whether your assumptions about the customer profile hold. Once a week we go through the results with you.

Data

Direct mobile numbers of the people who decide

For cold calling we build our own list. We combine several tools and data sources to find decision-makers' mobile numbers, so we call the person who makes the decision.

  • A list built for your campaign

Companies that match your customer profile and the people who make decisions there. We build the list from scratch for every campaign and never buy ready-made lists.

  • Decision-makers' mobile numbers

From several tools and sources we find the direct mobile numbers of decision-makers, plus their emails and LinkedIn profiles.

  • No general numbers or shared inboxes

Reaching people through a switchboard, a front desk or addresses like info@ is our last resort, when everything else has failed. Usually the call reaches the right person from the first sentence.

The call

A cold call in our campaign - when we call and how the call ends

In a campaign the phone has one goal - the next step with your sales rep. Your rep presents the offer at the meeting.

  • When we call

In full-service packages we call when the prospect has not replied to email or LinkedIn messages. When we agree on cold calling only, the phone is the main channel from the first touch.

  • Straight to the decision-maker

Before the call we research the company and the person's situation. We dial the direct number and talk about their situation from the first sentence. The switchboard is the exception, when there is no direct number.

  • The call ends with a date

A time that suits the prospect and your rep goes into the calendar with a note. If the prospect wants to talk but prefers to set the time themselves, you get them as a lead. A no ends the contact.

Team

Who calls on your behalf

Calls are made by an SDR who learns your offer, your customers and the most common objections before launch.

  • SDR

Makes the calls, answers prospects' questions, books meetings and hands over meetings and leads to you with a call note.

  • No reading from a script

You approve the script, and the SDR runs the conversation along it in their own words.

  • Persistence and respect for a no

Decision-makers are often on the road, so one call is not enough. In one of our campaigns we called the same owner 12 times over six weeks before he agreed to a meeting. A no ends the contact right away.

How we work

How a cold calling campaign runs - from the company list to the meeting. First calls after 2-3 weeks.

For the first 2-3 weeks we prepare the company list, the call script and the email mailboxes. Then we call, write and book meetings. From you we need one call, materials about your offer, a list of companies to exclude and the hours when your reps can take meetings.

01 - StartDays 1-3

We agree on the customer profile and what counts as a meeting.

  • Customer profile - which companies and people we call, and what counts as a booked meeting and a lead.
  • Market - we size your market - the companies and decision-makers that match your ideal customer profile (ICP).
  • Infrastructure - separate domains and mailboxes for email, bought and set up on our side.
  • From you - a kick-off call, materials about your offer and a list of companies to exclude.
02 - PreparationWeeks 1-2

We build the list, write the script and warm up the mailboxes.

  • List - companies and decision-makers with phone and email, data verified before launch.
  • Script and messages - the call script, answers to objections, plus the emails and LinkedIn messages.
  • Warm-up - new mailboxes are warmed up before they send the first email.
  • From you - approval of the company list, the script and the copy.
03 - CallsFrom week 2-3

We call during decision-makers' working hours, write and book.

  • Phone, email and LinkedIn - we write to people who do not pick up, and book a time by phone with those who replied.
  • Meetings and leads in your CRM - with a call note - who the person is, what they are looking for and when they plan to decide.
  • Weekly report - calls made, conversations with decision-makers, meetings and what prospects say.
04 - ScalingMonths 2-3

More of what wins.

  • Weekly review - we adjust the company list, the script and the copy when something does not work.
  • Next segments - what works moves on to further industries and markets.
  • From you - you run the meetings and confirm which meetings and leads count.

Law

Cold calling and the law - the rules we follow

Sales calls to companies fall under GDPR and under each country's rules on electronic communication, which may cover phone calls as well as email, and B2B exemptions vary by country. A prospect's phone number is personal data.

Different approaches to consent for a call are used in the market, for example calling only after a reply to a message or asking for consent at the start of the call. Each carries some risk, and regulators have not always taken a clear position.

  • Process reviewed with a law firm

This covers calls, emails and LinkedIn messages, from first contact to handling opt-outs and objections.

  • Lists and GDPR

When we build and process lists, we take care to meet GDPR transparency and notice requirements.

  • Calls and local rules

We write call scripts and message copy with each country's electronic communication rules in mind.

  • Respect for the recipient

We don't pester people - after a completed sequence, everyone gets a 45-60 day break before any new contact. People who unsubscribe or decline go on our exclusion list and will not get a message or a call from us in the future.

Pricing

How much does B2B cold calling cost?

Price depends on the selected channels and the number of companies we reach. On a retainer, the number of leads goes into the contract.

Pay-per-lead

No monthly retainer. You pay only for the leads you confirm, or for meetings that land in your calendar.

  • Every lead is confirmed by your sales team
  • Or pay-per-meeting, for booked meetings only
Retainer with leads in the contract

A fixed monthly fee with the number of leads written into the contract. If we fall short, we keep working until we deliver it, at no extra cost.

  • Number of leads written into the contract
  • We work until it is delivered
What the price depends on
Market size
how many companies qualify to buy your products or services
Number of leads or meetings
how many you want each month
How hard the contacts are to reach
a director at a 500-person manufacturer vs the owner of a local service business
